Writing out The Body: A Workshop

Your body is a landscape.

Its contours shift with the passing of each moment.

It holds in stories, secrets, silences--but it reveals them too.

Listen to the sound of your body--the beating of your heart, the static of the hair brushing against your ear, the hunger pangs gnawing at your stomach.

Speak to your body. What does your elbows, your kneecaps, your cheekbones, your hips have to say? How do your rib cage, skin, and bones make sense of the chaotic, messy, beautiful, uncertain world in which we live? What would you have to say to them?

In this workshop, we will let our body inspire, frustrate, tease our writing. Through breathing exercises, visualization, bodily movement, we will write and/or rewrite the stories and histories of our body.

In “Writing Out the Body: A Workshop,” you will have the opportunity to:

  • Connect with your body more intimately and lovingly

  • Get in touch with your emotions

  • Become mindful of the messages your body is conveying to you

  • Access creative ideas, personal memories and ancestral history through the body

  • Write without censorship

  • Use strategies to tap into your creative power on your own

  • Experience sharing your stories and witnessing others in a supportive community

What to Bring: Yourself. Writing Tools. Comfortable Clothing. Curiousity. Empathy. Love.
